<br /> <br />000290 <br /> <br />demonstration on the Paul Frank center pivot comparing the use of drag hoses vs sprinklers and have short <br /> <br />comments from producers that have used drag hoses on their pivots including Paul Frank, 'inuny Holmes <br /> <br />and Norm Dorenkamp. 'im will also discuss the demonstration being done on the Buffalo Canal where <br />. . <br />. . <br /> <br />PAM is being added to the water in an effort to reduce the high amounts of seepage, from the Canal in the <br /> <br />area south of Road FF and east of Road 32. <br /> <br />Dr. Luis Garcia, CSU extension agricultural engineer, will discuss results on water logging and <br /> <br />salinity problems in the District's Wild Horse watershed area. Dr. Garcia is working with fields scattered <br /> <br /> <br />from the Hartman area to east of Holly and is measuring the Water levels and salinity weekly throughout <br /> <br />the irrigation season. Many fields throughout the District are being affected by shallow water tables and <br /> <br />seepage causing crop damage and loss from high salinity levels. He will discuss the effect on the water <br /> <br />table, soil salinity and yields on alfalfa after the instllIlation of a drainage ditch on the Donnie Hammit and <br /> <br />Rod Thompson farms. <br /> <br />puring lunch, Linley Strum will have apicture presentation on his Wp to Russia. FoIJowing <br /> <br />lunch, the NQrtheast Prowers Soil Conservation District will hold it's l\nnual meeting updating members <br />',..' ,',' .' . .. ,"',' .., '" - -. <br /> <br />and workshop participants on the District's activities. Also being discussed are some cost sharing funds <br /> <br />that are available through lhe District's grant program. <br /> <br />~I <br /> <br />Dr. Tim Steffens, regional range management specialist with CSU Cooperative Extension, will <br /> <br />discuss range management for optimum returns during periods of drought. Drought conditions in 2000 and <br /> <br />2001 caused many stockmen to look for management practices that would help their operations. <br /> <br />Chris Henderson with the Prowers County Land Use Administration will speak on the use of <br /> <br />sludge and on control of noxious weeds. <br /> <br />Colorado Crop Consultants can receive CEUs in Soil and Water, Nutrienl Management and in <br /> <br />Integrated Pest Management for attending. <br /> <br />There is no charge for the Workshop bul reservations are necessary. Additional information on the <br /> <br />workshop and SCD meeting can be obtained by calling the Northeast Prowers SCD/NRCS office in HoIly <br /> <br />at 719-537-6506. <br />
