With 3 million m3 of storage available in Lake <br /> <br /> <br />Ogallala, the normal daily summer release of 57 m3/5 <br /> <br /> <br />can he increased to 156 m3/s on a peaking basis for about 8- <br /> <br />10 hours per day. <br /> <br />The new plant will generate 89 million kWh during an average <br /> <br />year. This will help offset the District's dependency on <br /> <br />scarce and increasingly expensive fossil fuels and will <br /> <br />produce energy equivalent to 150,000 barrels of oil each <br /> <br />year. <br /> <br />The estinated total project costs, at 1977 price levels, was <br /> <br />$2(..2 million. The project is currently under construction <br /> <br />and is scheduled to begin producing power in 1984. <br /> <br />SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS <br /> <br />Though the facilities of the Central Nebraska Public Power <br /> <br />and Irrigation District were suitable at the time they were <br /> <br />constructed in the 1930's and 1940's, they cannot fully ~eet <br /> <br />the de~ands being placed on them today. Fortunately, the <br /> <br />District's Board of Directors and staff had the wisdom to <br /> <br />take the big step and initiated an extensive modernization <br /> <br />program that will pay benefits for years to come. <br /> <br />-20- <br />
