PERSPECTIVE

--

Larry D. Simpson
General Manager

W eleame to another issue of
WATERNEWS. You may notice
a few minor changes to the layout of
this edition. These are due to the
recent acqUlsllOn by the District of a
desktop publishing system. The
system gives the District capabilities
10 produce publicatIOns. newsletters
and reports in. house al a fraction of
the previous cost. We hope you like
the changes.

As Ihe new decade dawns. the
District wants to re-emphaslze Its
commitment to careful management
and conservation of Colorado's most
valuable natural resource -- water.
11 is appropriate that as the 19905
begin there is an increased public
awareness of water issues. As a
result, an entire exhibition hall is
being prepared on the stale fair
grounds in Pueblo to lell all
Coloradoans the story of Colorado's
"liquid gold". If you haye neyer been
to the Stale Fair it will be well worth
the time this year. The NCWCD is
taking an actiye role In thiS exhibit
as indicated in the article on page 11

As you will note from the article on
the opposite page. the CoST quota
was set at 50~o this year for only the
second time in history, After studYing
snowpack and runoff forecasts.
board members felt that enough
water would be ayailable from local
runoff and storage and less would be

needed from the C-BT Project. The
concern IS that Lake Granby has not
tilled since 1986. It IS time to rebuild
storage reseryes atler a senes of
below norma] water years.

The District continues Its upgrade 01
the C-BT facilities. With the motor
reWinds at the Granby Pump Plant
beginning this summer. Major
rehabilitation efforts at Horsetoolh
ReservOir and Carter Lake haye been
completed recently and illustrate tne
DistriCt's commitment to keeping the
system in top operating condition.

The response to the District's summer
tours has been oyerwhelming We
apologize to those 01 you who may
not be able 10 participate this year
due to space constraints. Those of
you who would like to recelye
information regarding luture tours.
please fill out the enclosed card or
contact the District's Public
Information Officer Brian Werner.

csu histOrian Dan Tyler is Winding
down his research on the CoST and
NCWCD history proJect. The
anticipated publication of hiS book IS
late 1991 or early 1992.

We hope you like this issue oj
WATERNEWS.
