-3-

~,...
CJl
o
~~l

Number of Emi tters ~ Tree '

The desired root system is about 40% of the area alotted to each
tree. Thus, the area of the root system is

20 X 20 X 40% = 150 sq. ft. of root area

The soil is Ravola Clay Loam so a radius of wetted circle from the
emitter is 4 feet to 5 feet. Therefore,

150 sq.ft. root area = 3.18 emitters/tree
42 IT sq.ft. afea of 4' circle

Four emitters per tree were used to ensure an overlap, of water going
down through the soil to leach out the salts.

Size of Emitters
--

The peak consumptive use 'is about 40 gallons per day per tree.
Therefore for each size

40
4 X 1 gal/hr

= 10 hou rs

40
4 X 1.5 gal/hr = 6.6 hours

40
4 X 2 gal/hr = 5 hours

The one gallon per hour emitter was satisfactory for our operation. If
we were going to irrigate a larger acreage, we could use the two gallon
per hour emitter.

III. Plan' of Emitter Line Example

, Line Number 1 of Field E is 250 feet long and, is on a grade of
one foot per 100 feet. The objective is to arrive at a friction head
loss in the line that will overcome the head gained in grade. Since there
is an emitter every four feet, a length of 100 feet will have 25 emitters
and also 25 GPH. Therefore,

average flow from 250' to 150'

= 25 + 0/2 = 12.5 GPH =
.273 psi for DH 375 hose1

lpage 9, Drip-Eze Tech Manual
