At <br /> <br />the time the Santa Fe Compact was negotiated, it was agreed that in . <br /> <br />the event there should thereafter be a Treaty ...,ith nexico tha~ the <br />water requirements of that treaty ...,ould be furnished from the surplus <br /> <br />\1aters. This Act makes it clear that the Colorado River <br /> <br />Basin States ,1ill be relieved of. any obligation to reduce their uses <br />in order to supply the water requirements of the Treaty. It further. <br /> <br />provides that the cost of such augmentation will be nonreimbursable <br /> <br />or in other words, a cost charged against the' entire Nation. Aug- <br /> <br />mentation studies only are authorized in this-legislation: augmenta- <br /> <br />1" <br /> <br />tion works will not be built until they have been determined to be <br />feasible and have been specifically authorized-by,the,Congress. <br /> <br />The Act authorizes additional water resources developments in <br /> <br />both the Lower and Upper Colorado Riv~r Basins.
