Horsetooth Dam and Satanka Dike (1946-1949) were constructed
to close the valley ~t the north end of the reservoir. The dam is
an earth and rockfill type structure ~~th a maximum height of 154
feet, a crest length of 1,600 feet, and a volume of 1,872,000 cubic
yards. The main reservoir outlet is located in this dam. This out-
let consists of an 8.5-foot diameter concrete conduit, extending..
from an inlet trashrack structure in the reservoir to a gate-chamber
located beneath the dam, and a twin 10-foot by 10-foot horseshoe-
shaped conduit extending from the gate-chamber to a valve house and
stilling basin at the base of the dam. Two 72-inch diameter steel
pipes, installed in the twin conduits, extend from two 5-foot by
5-foot high-pressure slide gates in the gate-chamber to two 72-inch
hollow- jet valves in the valve house. The outlet has a capacity of
2,500 cfs at reservoir stage 5430. Satanka Dike, located about 400
feet west of Horsetooth Darn, is an earth and rockfill type structure
with a maximum height of 20 feet, a crest length of 350 feet, and a
volume ,of 5,000 cubic yards. This dike, with its crest four feet
lower, than that of the dams, serves as the emergency spillway for
the reservoir.

Soldier Canyon Dam (1946-1949) closes a natura~ opening
in the east hogback ridge, about 4,000 feet southeast of Horsetooth
Dam. ' It is an earth 'and rockfill type structu~e with a maximum
height of 234 feet, a crest length of 1,424 fee~" and a volume of
3,222,000 cubic yards. An' out;Let" 'tunnel thropgh the right 'abutment
of the dam leads from an inlet trashrack structure in the reservoir
to a valve house and stilling basin.. located at the base of the dam.
Upstream from a centrally located,gate-c~amber, the tunnel is 5
feet"~n ,diameter and 490 feet long. Downstream, the tunnel consists
of a 9.rfbot by 6-foot horseshoe-shaped' section" 703 feet long. A
30-inch diameter steel pipe, installed in this section of the tunnel,
extends from the gate-chamber to the valve house. Outlet. discharges
are regulated by a l4-inch ,hol16w~jet valve located in the'valve
house and a 24-inch wedge-gate,'yaJ. ve installed in the gate"':chamber.
The outlet capacity is 80 cfs'at'~eservoir stage 5430.

Dixon Canyon Dam (1946-1949), ,which closes a natural
opening in the east hogback ridge, "is -abOut 2.6 miles south of
Soldier Canyon Dam. It is an earth and rockfill type structure
with a maximum height of 240 feet, a crest length of 1,235 feet, and
a volume of 2,940,000 cubic yards.

Spring Canyon Dam (1946-1948), which closes the remaining
gap in the east hogback, is about 1.7 miles south of the Dixon
Canyon Dam and about 5.0 miles southeast of Horsetooth Dam. It is
an earth and rockfill type structure with a maximum height of '215
feet, a crest length of 1,150 feet, and a volume of 2,040,000 cubic
yards.

Dixon Feeder Canal, under con struction east of I1orsetooth
Reservoir, will have a capacity of 8 cfs and a length of approxi-
mately 3.0 miles. This canal leads from the reservoir outlet at
