Rattlesnake Tunnel will carry the water from Pole Hill Power Plant
to Rattlesnake Reservoir and the Bald Mountain Tunnel will deliver
the water to penstocks of the Flatiron Power Plant.

Flatiron Power Plant will be lo"ated in Chimney Hollow about
4 miles south. of Big Thompson Cfu,yon and about 9 miles southwest
of Loveland. As currently contemplated, this two-unit peaking
plant will have an ultimate capacity of 63,000 kilowatts and an
average operati~g head of approximately 1,100 feet.

Flatiron Reservoir will provide 400 acre-feet of operating
capacity and serve as an afterbay for the Flatiron Power Plant.
It vall also regulate flows to the Horsetooth Feeder Canal and act
as a forebay for the pumping plant which will deliver a portion of
the water to Carter Lake Reservoir. Located in Chimney Hollow,
about 8 miles southwest of Loveland, this reservoir ?dll require
the construction of an earth and rockfill type dam on Dry Creek--
a tributary of the Big Thompson River. Waters destined for the
Big Thompson River and for the Horsetooth Reservoir will be re-
leased from this reservoir directly into the Horsetooth Feeder
Canal. Waters to be stored in Carter Lake Reservoir, either for
subsequent use in the St, Vrain Valley or for eventual use in the
Big Thompson and Poudre Valleys, will be transferred to Carter
Lake Reservoir by means of the Flatiron Pumping Plant and the Carter
Lake Pressure Tunnel.

Big Thompson Power Plant will be located near the mouth of
Big Thompson Canyon and will operate on waters released from the
Horsetooth Feeder Canal to the Big Thompson River. It will be a
single-unit plant with an installed capacity of 6,700 kilowatts
and an operating head of approximately 180 feet.

Foothills Storage and SUDply System

The system now under construction along the foothills border-
ing the plains area will receive water from Flatiron Reservoir and
the Big Thompson River, transport the water to conveniently located
reservoirs for storage, and deliver supplemental water to existing
irrigation facilities. Extending nearly 40 miles in a general
north-south direction along the foothills above the plains area,
this system will serve irrigation facilities located in the Little
Thompson and St. Vrain Valleys south of Flatiron Reservoir and in
the Big Thompson, Poudre, and North Poudre Valleys north of the
reservoir. South from the Flatiron Reservoir, the system includes
the Flatiron Pumping Plant and Carter Lake Pressure Tunnel, Carter
Lake Reservoir, and the St. Vrain Supply Canal; north from the
same point, it includes the Horsetooth Feeder Canal with appurtenant
supply conduit leading from the Big Thompson River, Horsetooth
Reservoir, the Dixon Feeder Canal, and the Poudre and North Poudre
Supply Canals.

21
