6-foot circular shaft in which a spiral stair would lead from the

~i,'~',','
~

gate chamber to the control house at the crest of the dam. A trash-

rack tower with lower lip at elevation 8,003 would be provided.

Spillway. The spillway, capable of passing 6,000 second

feet of water with an open, side-channel crest 135. feet long, would

be located on rock in the right abutment. With the open crest at

elevation 8,132 the discharge of 6,000 second feet would require a

maximum water surface in the reservoir of 8,137, six feet below the

crest of the dam and nine feet below the top of parapet..

The lined spillway channel at the upstream end of the

crest would be 10 feet deep with t to 1 sides and 11 foot bottom

width, the depth at lower end of crest increasing to 29 feet. Here

a rise of 17 feet would lead to a lined concrete chute 28 feet wide

~'
..,.",
\'~~.~~:

which would return the water to the river at elevation 7,929 where

a dentated sill and hydraulic jump would dissipate the velociti~s.

Materials and Unit Prices

A pit for the impervious material, within one mile of the

damsite, has been sampled. Morainal material from cutoff and spill-

way excavation will be available for the downstream portion of the

rolled fill. Sandstone quarried near the site, with the boulders

recovered in excavation, will provide rock. Sand and gravel for con-

crete may be made available by washing and crushing river material at

the site.

Cement, other manufactured -ma terials, 9.nd equiJlllen t must be

hauled from Durango, or from the Florida station, where the railroad

crosses Florida River, a haul of 16 miles in either case,

Unit prices are those now current for similar work.

~.-.)

Quantities and prices are shown in the estimate, Drawing 254-D-153.

54
