<br />The cultivated areas for each year from 1922 to 1964, as published in annual
<br />
<br />water bulletins of the International Boundary and Water Commission, are listed in
<br />
<br />table 1. Also listed in table 1 are five-year averages (computed as average of
<br />
<br />current year plus two next on each side); these averages were computed to smooth
<br />
<br />out sharp irregularities of the annual data. Data from table 1 were plotted to
<br />
<br />define the curves shown on figure 1 (p. 38); these curves show cultivated area,
<br />
<br />and increase in area, from 1922 to 1964.

<br />The I. B. & W. C. estimates that in any one year the land irrigated will be,
<br />
<br />on the average, about 80 percent of the cultivated area. This percentage may vary
<br />
<br />greatly for any one year and is subject to considerable error; however, it is the
<br />
<br />best estimate available.

<br />A total of 780,394 acres were declared irrigated as of April 24, 1965,
