,

1'J1~~"7
....,...., """"_. J

Draft: April 21, 1994

Creek, respectively; (ENFL23a, ENFL23b, ENFL23c,
and ENFL23d correspond to Phase I inflows INFL56,
57, 58, and 59).

For expanded network inflow development, these
inflow estimates were derived as a proportion of
estimated natural inflow gains between the Gunnison
River nr. Lazear (09136200), uncompahgre River at
Colona (09147500), and Gunnison River nr. Grand
Junction (09152500) gage sites ( difference file
representing a large intervening area). Estimates
of the average annual WY 1952-1990 yield were
derived by adjusting Phase I yields developed for
the WY 1952-1983 period for the longer period.

Phase I long term yield estimates were obtained
from elevation/yield curve analysis. Flows were
distributed based on gaged flows at the Uncompahgre
River near Ridgway gaging station, with flow
adjustment factors applied to limit runoff
occurrences to the months of March through July
(zero flows in all other months). This runoff
pattern was based on inspection of historic gaged
data from the Pleasant Valley Ck. nr Noel and
spring Ck. nr. Beaver Hill gage sites.

Flow distribution for the expanded network version
of these inflows (ENFL23a-d) followed the pattern
of the difference file on which they are based.

Summary statistics and hydrographs of average
monthly flows for both flow estimation procedures
are provided in Attachment~. Comparison
illustrates differences in distribution patterns
between the two methods.

Resolution is needed on whether to use estimates
developed for Phase I (extended through 1990) as
given in INFL56-59 or to retain use of estimates
derived from difference file proportioning
(expanded network flow development: ENFL23a,b,c,d):

options:

A.) Use values as derived for Phase I (INFL56-59):

-- use of Phase I values raises problems with
maintaining mass balance (inflows sum to
natural flows at CRSS Gunnison River nr. Grand
Junction station)

7
