CLIMATOLOGY

The Bear Creek drainage basin climate varies between semi-arid

and subhumid with precipitation ranging from approximately 13 inches at

the lower elevations to over 30 inches on the higher mountains. The esti-

mated mean annual precipitation for the basin is 18 inches.

"

Former Water District No.9 has two weather stations situated

within its boundaries. One station is located in the Town of Evergreen and

the other station is located approximately one mile southwest of the Town

of Morrison. The station at Evergreen has been recording temperature and

precipitation data since 1961. Prior to 1961 (1948-61) the station was located

approximately two miles southwest of Evergreen and recorded only precipi-

tation. The station near the Town of Morrison records only precipitation

and has been in continuous operation since 1948.

Information from the Evergreen station is presented in Tables 2, 3,

4, and 5. Information from the Morrison station is presented in Table 6.

Table 7 gives normall precipitation and temperature data for the Denver

weather station (city) which is located approximately 10 miles north of the

Bear Creek mouth and is within 100 feet of being at the same elevation.

It is felt that climatic information recorded at the Denver weather station

is representative of conditions at the lower elevations in the Bear Creek

drainage basin. Table 8 gives freeze data for the Denver station.

There are no snow courses within former Water District No.9.

1
Normal is the average value for a particular date, month, or year over
a specific 30-year period.

-9-
