DIR ,
.,
SC
ASC
F
I
L
E

MEMORANDUM

It /01 Ray Tenney
FROM: Chuck Brendecke
SUBJECT: Progress Report for September - Elkhead Enlargement Study
DATE: October 7. 1993

Our work effort in September was mainly directed at Tasks 4 and 6.

In Task 4, the geOtechnical and geophysical reports are nearing completion. Some
supplemental test pits were dug to examine additional sources of borrow material and site
surveying of boring locations and downstream channel cross-sections was completed. We have
not yet encountered any information which would indicate significant engineering obstacles to
enlargement of the dam and reservoir.

Doug informs me that he has received the CADD files of the new mapping from ITS and
has gotten them up on their (Muller's) system. The mylars have not yet been delivered.

In Task 6, we prepared additional model runs addressing the contemplated draft of the
Juniper water rights and hydrologic conditions associated with the Environmental Baseline.
These results were discussed at a Technical Steering Group meeting at Hydrosphere on
September 18th. A summary of that TSG meeting is enclosed. Further model runs are
currently being held up pending resolution of certain water rights and operational issues related
to Stagecoach Reservoir that were raised at that meeting. Bill Miller has also conducted some
field investigations at Elkhead to begin setting up his reservoir fishery model.

We will need to finalize the Contemplated Draft and Environmental Baseline
assumptions before we can proceed with detailed reservoir operating studies. Now that the
mapping is in hand, these assumptions will probably become the critical path items.

Please feel free to call if you have any questions or comments on our September work
effort.

cc: Bob Norman
\ BiIl'Sl!i\iitblf:'

Hydrosphere Resource Consultants 1002 Walnut Suite 200 Boulder, Colorado 80302

Q:\PROJeCT6l19JlOO1IPROORESSIl,JNnTUC ~RE...rEO: CCTOIlE'R 7. 1993 B:n AM PR""TEO: 00<0... 1.
