Test drilling
snd pumping were completed during the month in the highly cultivated area
north of the river as a part of the ground water studies being made.
Cross sections of the flood plain of the Rio Grande were completed
during December and field notes were plotted up in the office. This
material will be mailed to the Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque, early
in 1950 after which time the project is informed that approximately
sixty days will be required by the Corps of Engineers to complete the
preparation of discharge damage curves as provided for in memorandum of
agreement between the Corps of Engineers and the Bureau of Reclamation.

Discussions were held concerning the criteria and scope of hydrologic
studies to be made for the Rio Grande Division with members of the
Regional Office, Office of the Chief, Division of HYdrology, and
Mr. R. J. Tipton, Consulting Engineer, Colorado Water Conservation Board.
Minor changes have been made in the form of the criteria; however, it'is
believed the projeot is now in a position to actively prosecute the
studies. Future disoussions will be held as various phases of the
studies are oompleted.

During the month d: December the San Luis Valley Water Conservancy
District made an active campaign in order to extend the boundaries of the
District to inolude all area watered by diversion of waters from the
Rio Grande in Colorado. I am informed by officials of the Distriot that
progress in expanding the District is very satisfactory and continued
effort will be made along this line.

Weminuche Pass Division

There were no activities during the month in this division.

Closed Basin Division

Observation of the fluctuations of the ground water level continued
during the month by personnel of the Geological Survey.

Qgnejos Division

Construction work by contracting forces on Platoro Dam and Reservoir
ceased at the end of the month. Progress meeting with the schedul~ as
anticipated by the contractor and the Construction Engineer was satisfactory,
and work is scheduled to be resumed as soon as climatic conditions permit
in the spring of 1950 b\ltprobably not prior to May 1, 1950.

(", ,~ ~ r. ~..,
\.J ~ ~t;".
