Diversion and Care of Streams <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The specifications require the contractors to take all necessary <br />precautions to maintain strearoflows during construction and ryrevent <br />contamination of the water. Work within stream channels will be <br />kept to a minimum. When prolonged work in a stream ~hannel is <br />necessary, the stream will be diverted by cofferdams, cbannels, <br />flumes, or othe~ tempQra~y WQ~ks. TempoTary contamination ~f <br />streamflows may occur during construction in stream channels. All <br />applicable laws and regulations will be complied with. <br /> <br />3. Explosives, Drilling and Blasting <br /> <br />The transportaiton, handling, storage, and use of explosives shall <br />be subject to the provisions of "Subpart U - Blasting and the Vse <br />of Explosives" of the Department of Labor Safety and Health <br />Regulations for Construction Manual, the applicable provisions of <br />the Bureau of Reclamation supplement thereto, and the regulations <br />of the DepaTtment of the Treasury contained in 26 CFR 181, <br />Commerce in Explosives. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The contractor maintains an inventory record of storage and withdrawal <br />of all explosives. This record is available to the contracting <br />officer and he is promptly notified of any loss or theft nf <br />explosives. The contractor provides such reasonable and adequate <br />protective facilities as are necessary to prevent loss or theft of <br />explosives. Overnight storage of explosives and detonators outside <br />of the magazines is not permitted. When drilling in rock or other <br />dust-producing material, the dust shall be controlled within safe <br />hygienic limits as specified in the "Threshold Limit Values of <br />Airborne Contaminants" published by the Ame~~icaILConf.erence-4 <br />Government~r-rnaUS1rfal-Hygienists. <br /> <br />All percussion-type drilling shall be performed with drilling <br />apparatus equipped with water or chemical dust-control systems <br />or other equivalent means of controlling the dust. Pressure tanks <br />used in the suppression equipment shall conform to American Society <br />of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, <br />Section VIII, for Vnfired Pressure Vessels. Equipment and solutions <br />used shall be suitable for operation in freezing weather. Except <br />for underground excavation, dust-control devices are not required <br />on jackbammers, provided the operators wear approved r.ust <br />respirators when dust concentrations exceed safe hygienic 'imits. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />V-3 <br />
