This was a good water year lor the Amity.

No serious problems of distribution arose except with the breaks on
the Canal north of Hol!.y caused b,y rain and hail in June and the weed.
pack in October caused by a high wind storm. The breaks were quickly
repaired but the weed jam took" several days to remove and came at a
time when John Martin Reservoir water was soon to be shut off. This
necessitated release of some water from the Great Plains Reservoir to
irrigate fall seeding.
More water was released fromJohn Martin Reservoir during the 1'9-61)
season than in 1965 the flood year. Outflow from John Martin Reservoir in
1965 was 287,000 as. and "in 1966 was 355,000 a.f., 74,800 a.t. of which
was Hood release made during the winter, but280,401) was released b,)' re-
quest, 158,360 a.f. for Colorado, and Kansas demand was 122,000 aJ.
Because the water in storage in John Martin Reservoir exceeded the
conservation. capacity releases of river flow 'Were made by the Corps of
Engineers about as it entered Ute Reservoir throughout the winter season.

The Compact Administration and irrigators had requested that this
water be held in John Martin Reservoir until such time in the spring that
it could be applied beneficially to the land. This request, the Chief of
Engineers was unwilling to comply with, because of the historic record
of UJ.e Arkansas river for gigantic flooding. During the period from
November 1 to April 1 a total oC 74,800 ai. was released from the
Reservoir.

29,500 ai. of this release was diverted b~' Colorado ditches and
applied, but during Januar.}' and February very little of the flood release
was used.

During the winter season 99,000 ai. crossedilie State line and 114,000
a.L was reported past Garden City, When water was being I.lse-d during
the irrigation season from April! to November 1, only 31.920 a.f. passed
Garden City and a large part oC this was in August.

The Amity Canal di.verted 13'3.,ClGO a.t.tromthe river dur~ the ~rear
other ditches in District #67 diverted 84,200 a.f. 1

Soon after our Company was Mutualized. the upper division of our
Canal was refurbished and restored to the original capacity.
