<br />Pumping plants
<br />
<br />In the previous fiscal year, 1943-44, the pumping plants had
<br />been operated continuously from February 22 to March 22, 1944
<br />increasing stored water in Lake Mathews to 83.263 acre ftl>t.
<br />This period was arranged in cooperation with the Pacific South-
<br />west Power Interchange Committee so as to cau~e least incon-
<br />venience tn electric power consuming war plants and indugtries
<br />in the southwest area. No further delivery was made to Lake
<br />Mathews between March 22 and August 19, 1944_ Beginning
<br />in August and continuing to December the pumps were oper-
<br />ated about two weeks each month to replenish Lake Mathews
<br />storage. The low winter demand for water made pumping un-
<br />necessary in the first three months of 1945, but in the last half
<br />of April pumping was resumed and was repeated at intervals
<br />in May and June. The total quantity pumped at the Hayfield
<br />plant in this fiscal year was 38,631 acre feet. During the four
