Southern Ute Reservoir will meet the municipal and industrial water

requirements of the Southern Ute Indians. Should not enough La Plata

River water be available from the reservoir to meet these requirements,

additional water will come from Ridges Basin Reservoir (through Ridges

Basin Pumping Plant, Dry Side Canal and the La Plata River).

Big Stick Reservoir will supply irrigation water to the La Plata,

Colorado area above Dry Side Canal and furnish municipal and industrial

water for Red Mesa and Dry Side. Water from the La Plata River will be

diverted into the reservoir through a small diversion dam and canal.
The proposed Animas Power Plant will generate power to be used along

with supplemental purchases from the Colorado River Storage Project to

provide power for project pumping. A tunnel, located on the first sharp

bend south of the Tacoma Power Plant, will divert flows from the Animaa

River to the proposed power plant. Present plans will have the plant

recessed in the canyon wall so that it will not detract from the area'a

scenery.

Sprinkler irrigation will be used on all project lands. The lateral
systems will provide sprinkler pressure at each farm turnout. Pumping

plants will provide this pressure where the ground slope is insufficient

to pressurize the pipeline. Project drainage will also be furnished, where

required, on project land.
Fiaheries will be created in the in~ctive pools of Ridges Basin and

Southern Ute Reservoirs. In addition, recreational facilities will be

provided at those reservoira. The fishery and recreation potential of

Big Stick Reservoir has not been evaluated yet.

3
