:1
I

-------. -

ANIMAS-LA PLATA PROJECT

Operation Study

The attached operation study simulates the movement of water
through the project during the 1949-1965 period. All values shown
are in thousands of acre-feet (example: 6.3 is 6,300 acre-feet.)

Shown in the study are the end of month (EOM) contents for each
reservoir. Inactive capacities are added to the content shown to
get the total reservoir capacity (example: Dec., 1949 Ridges Basin
Reservoir has 117.0 or 117,000 acre-feet in the active capacity;
this means that there are 117,000 + 150,500 = 267,500 acre-feet of
water in the reservoir.) Reservoir inactive capacities are shown
on a table in project statistics.

For each of the irrigation areas the demand and supply of irri-
gation water is shown as well as the shortage that will be allowed
under project conditions. The demand is established by a scientific
determination of the consumptive use of water for each area and farm
and conveyance losses.

The operation study is used to size the different project features.
The actual operation of the project will depend on the supply of water
in the rivers at the time the project is in use.
