The deficiencies of these sources and growth of the City <br />spurred development of a private water company which opened <br />for business in 1872 with a large well and four miles of mains, <br />Several competing operations later got under way. In 1894, all of the <br />City's major water suppliers were consolidated into the Denver <br />Union Water Company. This stronger organization increased <br />water supply and treatment facilities.
