This story has been incomplete, thus far, in that it has not men-
tioned the development of one of the Nation's finest water trans-
mission and distribution systems. Our desire has been to provide
water at good pressures and sufficient quantities to all consumers
even during periods of peak summer use, Additions and improve-
ments by the Water Board to accomplish this have included hundreds
of miles of mains and conduits, nearly two dozen pumping stations,
numerous clear water reservoirs and the conversion of key valves and
pumps throughout the system to centralized-remote control.
Because of its ability to deliver plenty of water at all times, fire
insurance underwriter's rate the Denver water system among the best
for large cities, This ranking is a major factor in the comparatively
low fire insurance rates which benefit all Denver property owners.
THE ROAD AHEAD

Denver has come a long way from a humble beginning as a
frontier town only a little more than a century ago, It has grown
into a great and thriving metropolis and one of America's leading
cities. The Board of Water Commissioners and the Denver Water
Department are proud to have played a part of that history over the
last 50 years,
tunities for everyone, One thing that we expect to remain constant
in the future, as it has in the past, is our basic goal. That goal is to
provide the consumer with the best water service at the lowest price
consistent with long term needs.

We plan to make continued improvements in water supply, treat-
ment, transmission and distribution facilities to keep the Denver
water system one of the Nation's best. For Denver to remain growing
and vibrant, it will continue to be necessary to overcome nature's
insufficient allocation of water to our area. We are continually examin-
ing every possible way to provide for future needs ranging from new
transmountain diversions and exchanges of water to the reuse of
water, With respect for the past, we remember that planning for
Denver's growth has preceded completion of complex projects by as
much as 50 years, We pledge to you a continued eye to the future.
