The average annual i10w of the Colorado River at Yuma. Arizona, s
16,000,000 acre-feet ranging from 8,000,000 acre-feet in low years to
25,000,000 acre-fe~t in high years. It is evident that a large volume
reservoir capacity is required for complete utilization when it is
stated that floods of as great as 200,000 second-f.oet have occurred in
the lower river.
The lower portion of the Colorado River basin is arid in charccter.
and the water supply originates chiefly in the high mountains of Wyoming,
ColoradO, Utah. and new ltlxi co; 92 per cent of the annual average flew
at Yuma, Arizcna comes from the Green. Grand, 8.ljd San Juan Rivers,

At the present time the total area irrig, ted from the Colorado
River and its tributories approximates 2,000,000 acres, of which about
100,000 acres lie in Old Mexico. The undeveloped irrigable area that
is considered feasible of development according to present standards
may spproximate 4.000.000 to 5,000,000 ocres, of which 700.000 aores
lie in old Mexioo.

To show the approximate extent. distribution, and re1.tion of the
present irrigated and undeveloped irrigable arc.^.s of the Colorado River
basin. the following table prepared by Mr, John T. Hhist1er. engineer
