Hell, that is very good information, because that
gives some idea as to the amount, You are an expert, and you appear as
one of these commissioners; we are asked to aopoint another one, Your
c ornpensati On is to be $7,500?

MR. CF.RFENTER. I say not to exceed that. I work on a p>r diem,
because my time will be divided between this and four ether rivers, and
also an some irrigation matters of a private nature that I must look
after, So that I work for the State of Colorado on a per diem compensa-
tion, with expenses.

MR. HICliENER. Well, this Federal commissioner contempInted in this
bill; would it require all of his time. or could he work on a per diem,
and do other work at the same time?

,

HR. C"RPENTER. He might, depending upon the arrangerrant that was
made. I hope it will not take all of our time. Personally, and also
on behalf of the cammissiornr from New ~!exico, Mr. Stephen De.vis, of
Las Vegas, Q very able and eminent lawyer of that secti an, I can state
that neither One of us will be able to give his entire time, and we
would wish to make the prooeedings as short and expeditious as possible,

,

I might also state in that regard that a great part of t he details
neoessary to-be brought before the commission is largely prepared. The
Geological Survey has for years been conducting its water-supply in-
vestigations and keeping its records. The United States Reclamation
Service ho.a made a most exhaustive study of the water-supply condi ti ona
upon that stream, in view of the projects near Yuma and on Salt River,
a tributary dONn in Arizona, and in view of their projects in California
and possibly other projects, as well as the vast projects in Colorado
