State of the Art Report on Phreatophyte (moist site vegetation) <br />Management. <br /> <br />Jerry Horton, employed under contract by the U. S. .Forest <br />Service, completed a draft of this report and presented it <br />to subcommittee members for comment in early June. The <br />report should be printed in final form within the next few <br />months. <br /> <br />2. Evaluation of Needed Research on Water Losses from Principal <br />Riparian Vegetation. <br /> <br />This subcommittee work item, under the task force leadership <br />of Howard Morton of the ARS, has awaited the completion of <br />the Horton report and a report on water yield by vegetative <br />management by Ffo11iott and Thorud which is now in press. <br />With the two reports completed, work can begin on this work <br />program item. <br /> <br />3. Identify Effective Vegetative Management on Stripmined Lands. <br /> <br />This work item was carried as far as the subcommittee felt it <br />should be for 1975. At the 75-1 subcommittee meeting a panel <br />discussed work being accomplished by several agencies. As <br />sO many projects are underway the subcommittee decided that a <br />State of the Art report at this time is premature. It was <br />decided that the subcommittee should develop a continuing <br />inventory of research and other activities regarding re- <br />vegetation of stripmined lands. Jesse McWilliams, Soil <br />Conservation Service, Reno, Nevada, was requested to be the <br />task force leader <br /> <br />4. Assisting the Water Management Subcommittee in its Literature <br />Search Regarding Weather Modification Programs. <br /> <br />This work item is continuing under the leadership of the Water <br />Management Subcommittee. <br /> <br />During the 75-2 meeting the subcommittee went on a very worth- <br />while field trip to the Plant Materials Center at Los Lunas and <br />the Bureau of Reclamation 1ysimeters at Bernardo, New Mexico. <br /> <br />Lyle K1ubben, Forest Service, was reelected Chairl!\an and Bob Easley, <br />Corps of Engineers, was elected Secretary for Fiscal Year 1976. <br />
