<br /> <br />Ofl15f.l7 <br /> <br />PSIAC MEETINGS FISCAL YEAR 1975 <br /> <br />74-3 Meeting -- Las Vegas, Nevada <br />Novemb"r 19-2Q.LJ.974 <br />Host: State of Nevada <br /> <br />Business Session <br /> <br />Chairman Webster Otis presided. <br /> <br />Mr. Theodore Farfag1ia, General Council for the U.S. Water Resources <br />Council, summarized activities of the Council since the last meeting. <br /> <br />Dr. Robert M. Hagan, Professor of Water Science at the University of <br />California, Davis, presented a briefing and slides on controlling <br />water loss of phreatophytes. <br /> <br />Chairman Otis reviewed the program objectives for FY 1975. Specific <br />items of regional interest had been singled out for early emphasis <br />and presented to the Committee. <br /> <br />The Subcommittee Chairmen reported on their activities, and they were <br />complimented for the progress being made on the assigned work items. <br /> <br />The PSIAC provided the Consortium of Water Institutes and Centers with <br />an advisory panel for the seven basin State Water Centers. Dr. Herbert <br />Snyder reported the panel helped in two ways: (1) monitoring programs <br />and including ideas of study in economics of salinity control of the <br />Colorado River; and (2) helped identify priority research problems <br />and furnished a list of seven items considered to be high priority. <br /> <br />PSIAC actions: <br /> <br />1. The Committee unanimously passed the motion that PSIAC accept the <br />invitation of the Water Resources Council to become an Observer at the <br />Council meetings of Members and Representatives. <br /> <br />2. Authorized the Chairman to send a letter to the Water Resources <br />Council indicating PSIAC's interest in obtaining financial support for <br />a staff position on a 50/50 matching basis between the Water Resources <br />Council and State and Federal governments; and the Executive Subcommittee <br />appoint a task force to determine the cost and functions of such a staff <br />position, and negotiate with the Water Resources Council with the under- <br />standing that the final proposal would be subject to approval by both <br />parties.
