.

co
....-l
--,
',~
,.:)
'-:';
C)

Mr. Stephen Ellis

- 2 -

May 18, 1979

Five thousand acre-feet of water will irrigate up to three
sections, or twelve one hundred and sixty-acre quarter sections,
with an annual return to the trusts of approximately $75,000.00
from land which noW is producing about $1,500.00 a year. The return
to the Land Board should represent about one-tenth of the actual
production of the land, and the multiplier effect in economic
activity would be almost twice that. The five thousand acre-feet,
in other words, should generate annually about $2,225,000.00 in
economic activity in an agricultural area with a depressed economy.
This should be compared to the 5,300-acre feet which are
to be reserved for fowl refuge and the up to 12,500-acre feet
proposed for the other.

The environmental impacts of the Closed Basin Project are
not a serious concern of the Land Board.

RR:mlp

.
