This is the portion that can be sold. Even
though Amity historically diverts much more water than this each year,
only the consumptive use portion may be sold,

I
r
i

WHAT IS CONSUMPTIVE USE?
That part of the diverted water that is either used by the plants
irrigated, evaporation, percolation, etc.

HO~ IS CONSUMPTIVE USE DETERMINED?
By the way the water has been used over the years. This includes the
kinds of crop grown on the land, the amount of water that has been
allowed to "run off" and find it's way back into the river, evaporation,
percolation, and many other factors that show how efficiently or how in-
efficiently the diverted water has been used.

WHAT ARE THE STORAGE RIGHTS OF THE AMITY?
Amity has 265,000 acre feet of storage in the Great Plains Reservoir
system located north of Lamar, Colorado. Recently they were granted the
right to store 50,000 acre feet of the 265,000 acre feet behind the John
Martin Dam, above the conservation pool. Both of these rights are VERY
important and VERY valuable to the owners of the Amity Mutual Irrigation
Company.

~IHAT IS AN ACRE FOOT OF WATER?
To cover one acre, 43,560 square feet, with one foot of water, would take
approximately 326,000 gallons.

(continued)
