.

.

.

1128

WHY WATER RIGHTS ?

WATER IS THE KEY to the future of the arid West. Cities and states

must acquire water to support and promote GROWTH and ECONOMIC

DEVELOPMENT.

WATER RIGHTS ARE OWN ABLE ASSETS and recognized as REAL PROPERTY in
state of COLORADO.

WATER RIGHTS ARE PAID FOR ONE TIME ONLY, yet these rights grant the

owner specified amounts of water EACH YEAR based on

historical flow data. The date the water was originally

appropriated indicates the seniority of the right, and the

ability to take the water on a priority basis.

WATER RIGHTS GENERALLY ARE OWNED BY FARMERS AND RANCHERS, or

municipalities. Depending on their current status, the water

rights can be used for agricultural, industrial, municipal or

other purposes.

WATER RIGHTS OBTAIN THEIR VALUE by usage. For agricultural usage,

the value of a water right is generally related to the market

value of the crops the water irrigates. The value of that

same water to a developer or municipality is in its use for

industrial or municipal consumption, Water rights for

industrial or municipal use have FAR GREATER VALUE than water
rights for agricultural use.
