Land Uses <br /> <br />Land uses in the WSA include diversion ditches at <br />Music Pass and at Denton Creek. A diversion ditch <br />also adjoins the boundary at Medano. Pass. An AT&T <br />microwave site is located on the boundary of the <br />area at Mosca Pass. <br /> <br />B, Economic and Social Setting <br /> <br />The Sangre de Cristo Wilderness Study Area falls within <br />several Human Resource Units ornu' s). The HRU's are <br />delineated areas to identify social and economic patterns <br />and lifestyles, The HRU's generally coincide with county <br />boundaries. Management actions in the Forest Plan are <br />designated to respond to identified issues, conditions, <br />and needs in the HRU' s. Those HRU's which include the <br />Sangre de Cristo WSA are the Sangre de Cristo Wet <br />Mountains HRU in Fremont and Custer Counties, and the <br />Spanish Peaks HRU in Huerfano County on the east. On the <br />west side is the San Luis Valley with Saguache and <br />Alamosa Counties. Population, Employment, and Income <br /> <br />The county populations in the HRU's are generally <br />low with economies and employment based on <br />agriculture and ranching, Much of "the employment is <br />seasonal. Unemployment rates are geherally high and <br />average incomes low, The counties include a <br />significant minority population of Spanish American <br />origin.
