<br /> <br />Major access points on the western side include the <br />Hayden Pass Road, Crestone Creek, and the Medano <br />Creek Road from the Great Sand Dunes National <br />Monument. Several other lower standard roads also <br />provide access to the Forest boundary or the WSA <br />boundary, but many of these have no public <br />right-of-way and access is controlled by the private <br />landowners. There are also several low standard <br />four-wheel drive roads which penetrate short <br />distances inside the WSA but these al;'e closed to <br />public use, Two four-wheel drive roads (Medano Pass <br />and Hayden Pass) divide the northern and southern <br />portions of the study area from the central portion. <br />The Blue Lakes four-wheel drive road on the <br />southwestern corner of the area penetrates to within <br />about 1 mile of the divide, <br /> <br />The Rainbow Trail parallels the eastern boundary of <br />the study area and Forest boundary from Music Pass <br />to the northern end of the WSA. Motorized use is <br />allowed on the trail. <br /> <br />Numerous trails provide access <br />Trail toward the summit of the <br />Range and the high lakes. Range <br /> <br />The Sangre de Cristo WSA contains portions of three <br />existing livestock allotments (see Figure 13) on the <br />San Isabel Forest with a permitted use of <br />approximately 109 animal unit months per year. <br />There is an additional 4,425 acres of potential <br />suitable range with an estimated capacity of 3,500 <br />animal unit months per year. <br /> <br />The area on the <br />parts of five <br />stocked with a <br />months per year <br /> <br />Rio Grande Forest contains all or <br />livestock allotments.
