Cimarron Canal Information

July 6, 1993
Page 2

I'ln~",t,"l
ou.............

4. Cimarron Valley Demand. The first demand "site" along the
canal represents the collective acreage of agricultural lands served
by the canal within the Cimarron River Valley. This is not an
"aggregated" demand, since it has no water rights or "priority
classes associated with it. The relevant water rights are modeled
at the Cimarron Canal Headgate. Thus, users will not be able to
list or specify water rights associated with any of the canal's
"demand sites". Instead, users will be able to specify by means
of a checkbox, whether or not each demand site will have access
to diversions under the canal's direct-flow water rights.

In other respects, the Cimarron Valley "demand site" will be like
a normal agricultural demand. A project affiliation and
augmentation eligibility, each with or without an annual limit,
may be specified. Acreage, C. U. table, irrigation efficiency,
return flow locations, distribution and lags, as well as a physical
capacity, may be specified. The physical capacity, however, will
not correspond to a single real-world structure.

The default settings for the Cimarron Valley demand site, used in
the Baseline and Historical Scenarios, will include both access to
the canal's direct-flow diversions and project affiliation with
Silver Jack Reservoir. (Any annual limit on project deliveries?)

5. Bostwick Park Demand. The second demand "site" served by
the canal is the agricultural area known as Bostwick Park, which
is likely to have different C.U. factors from the Cimarron Valley
site and certain to have different return-flow locations (at least
partially to the Gunnison River below the Black Canyon). The
specifiable parameters will be identical to those of the Cimarron
Valley site described above. The single-value, physical capacity
will represent the most restrictive section of the canal between the
headgate and the first turnout for lands in Bostwick Park. (Need
the data.) The default settings for direct-flow and project water
will be the same as for the Cimarron Valley site. (Any annual
limit?)

6. Project 7 Demand. (See Info Theme No.8 for a more detailed
discussion.) Project 7 receives water from both the Cimarron
Canal and from the Uncompahgre Valley Project via the South
Canal. From the perspective of the Cimarron Canal, Project 7
could receive supplemental water from Silver Jack Reservoir (or
perhaps from some user-specified municipal reservoir) and it
could be eligible for Blue Mesa "augmentation" via the Cimarron
Canal. The default settings are: no project affiliation, but access
to Cimarr~m Canal direct-flow diversions up to a set of 12 X 40
monthly limits, which represent the City of Montrose's
proportionate ownership of Cimarron Canal stock. Users will
directly specify such AF limits only for Project 7, in lieu of
being able to specify proportionate ownerships for the three
demand sites.
