Pinon Canyon Dam, located <br />in Pinon Canyon, a tributary of the Purgatorie River, controls about 1 square <br />mile. Project operation is automatic since there are no gates on the conduit <br />or spillway. Thare are 22 urban areas, incor- <br />porated and unincorporatad, having more than l,nOO population in <br />the l3-coWlty area. Towns and cities having more than 5,000 <br />population in 1960 are ahown in Table 4-10. <br /> <br /> <br />b. Agriculture. Agricultural pursuits in the area <br />are oriented toward onions, alfalfa, sugar beets, watermelons, <br />corn, sorghums, assorted vegetables, tomatoes, potatoes, wheat, <br />small grains, beans, hay, and wi th mos t of the efforts directed <br />toward livestock.
