<br />3-0l. Authorization. Pueblo Dam and Reservoir was authorized
<br />for construction by Public Law 87-590, approved by the President
<br />on August 16, 1962. Documentation is contained in House Document
<br />No. 187. 83rd Congress, 1st Session, and House Document No. 353,
<br />e6th Congress, 2d Sesaion, as modified in January 1960.

<br />3-02. Plannin~ and Desi~n. Pueblo Dam and Reservoir was initially
<br />analyzed in the Project Planning Report Number 7-8a, 49-1,
<br />"Initial Development Gunnison-Arkansas Project, Roaring Fork
<br />Diversion, Colorado, A Potential TransDlOuntain Diversion Project,"
<br />United States Department of the Interior, Bureau of Reclamation,
<br />Region 7 - Denver, Colorado, January 1950. In the initial design,
<br />the dam was to be an earth filled structure. Later, in the mid-
<br />1960's, the deaign was changed to a concrete gravity structure.
<br />The final design is an earth fill embankment with concrete massive
<br />hesd buttress spillway structure.
<br />
<br />3-03. Construction. A resume of construction activities for
<br />Pueblo Dam & Reservoir is presented in Table 3-l.

<br />3-04. Related Projects. Pueblo Dam and Reservoir is a major
<br />east slope feature of the Fryingpan - Arkansas multipurpose develop-
<br />ment in Colorado, and the fOllOWing facilities have been completed:
<br />Ruedi Dam and Reservoir; Sugar Loaf Dam and Turquoise Lake enlarge-
<br />ment; Charles H. Boustead, South and North side collection system on
<br />the West side and appurtenant diversion works. Pueblo Dam and
<br />Reservoir is the only feature with flood control.
