B. Morton announced plans <br />for the proposed prototype oil shale leasing program and released a preliminary <br />environmental statement, a program statement, and reports prepared by the States <br />of Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming concerning environmental costs'and problems of <br />oil shale development. (Following that announcement, the Department of the <br />Interior authorized informational core drilling at various sites in Colorado, <br />Utah, and Wyoming. Twenty-eight core holes have been completed.) <br /> <br />Novemher 2, 1971 - The Department of the Interior requested nominations of tracts. <br />Twenty individual tracts of oil shale lands were nominated. <br /> <br />April 25, 1972 - With the concurrence of Governors of the 3 States, the Department <br />of the Interior announced selection of six of the nominated tracts proposed for <br />leasing -- two each in Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming. <br /> <br />0238 <br /> <br />'., <br />
