18

12 Yuma Mesa Hells (60,000 AF/yr) and
Sonora Hesa \1ells (160,000 AF/vr)

",-

......
.:". .

Thc singular effect for the combination of both pumping,
regimens in United States and Mexico was determined to provide
an assessment of the responses on the ground1...ater system. The
computed "ater level change after 10 years of pumping is sh01m
on Figure B-5. The quantitative effects after 5, 10, and 50 years
of pumping are given in Table 1. A recapitulation of the effects
at the end of 50 ,years follows.

a) Reduction and recharge from Colorado River would be
20,600 AF/yr (50-year average); ,

,
I
I
, ,

~

\

I --
,

b} Depletion of surface drain~ge flow at S.~B. would be
53,000 AF/yr (50-year average);

c) Depletion of groundwater storage in United States would
be 1,750,000 AF at the end of 50 years;
d) 'Depletion of ground1,ater storage in Hexico would be
4,600,000 AF at the end of 50 years;

e) The change in the rate of groundwater flow across the'
Arizona-Sonora boundary to Mexico at the end of 50 years
would eomprise an'increase of 45,000 Ar/yr and the total
flow across this boundary would be about 90,000 AF/yr.

The computed '-'Liter level change at the end of 10 yea).'s for
this pumping regimen was subtracted from the 1972 water level
contours as sh01m on Figure A-II. The result of this analysis
is sholYII on Figure B-6 which compriscs a prediction, of the
actual "ater level contours 10 years after pumping from both the
12 Ymna Mesa wells and the Sonora Mesa wells. An inspection of
the grauicnt'reveals that it has becn steepened (nearly
doubled) at the Arizona-Sono).'a boundary. It has been cstimated
that the total flO\, across the boundary to Hexico would be
about 60,000 AF/yr at thc'end of 10 yeurs of pumping.
