.

.

.

modifications in the measured diversions less measured returns concept

are incorporated in the proJected depletion atudies. Summari~ing briefly
these are:

1. An assumed future conaumptive use rate on most Indian Reservations

and the Palo Verde Irrigation District of 4.3 acre-feet per acre
in lieu of an indicated average rate over the past few years
of about 4.67 acre-feet per acre (5.23 for the Colorado River
Indian Reservation and 4.44 for the Palo Verde Irrigation District).
2. An assumed consumptive use of 70 percent of diveraion for certain
miscellaneous irrigation users pumping from the underground
and/or direct from the river, where no surface returns are
now evident. This in effect assigns an arbitrary consumptive
use rate in the future for these users of 4.2 acre-feet per

acre compared to the present reported use rate of about

6 acre-feet per acre.

3. An estimated net gain of 60,000 acre-feet per year in

the reach of river between Imperial Dam and the Northerly Boundary

was allocated to California and Ari~ona as a return flow credit

from irrigation operations.

10
