I 0J2271
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

Two of these ditches, Riverside and Tetsel, are In the

process of implementing physical strategies of ground

water/surface water use which will provide adequate

irrigation supplies.

Problems incurred by Riverside and Weldon Valley have

principally related to a lack of ground water extraction

capability for cropland irrigated under the lower reaches

of these ditches. The alluvial aquifer does not

consistently extend under these reaches, precluding

use of wells as a supplemental supply source. Severity

of drought impact on Tetsel Ditch is primarily

attributable to the extremely junior nature of its

decreed diversion.

Water supply strategies developed by the Riverside Canal

are applicable to two different reaches of the ditch.

These plans address the upper two-thirds and the downstream

one-third of the system, respectively, a situation

necessitated by the physical amenability of these reacnes

to source water supply.

Eight wells of approximately 4.5 cfs capacity have been

installed on the periphery of Riverside Reservoir. These

wells possess the ability to pump directly into Riverside

Canal downstream from Riverside Reservoir. One additional

well has been permitted, but isn't yet drilled. This well

field, in conjunction with reservoir storage releases, will

assist in meeting irrigation requirements in the upper

two-thirds of the Riverside system.

vix

,{

'--.,
