<br />'. <br /> <br />~ <br />oq 13 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />irrigation technology transfer, evaporation and transpiration <br />reduction, and brackish water reuse; (4) distribution of nearly <br /> <br />five million conservation kits to California households; (5) maintainH;:<; <br /> <br />five demonstrations gardens using native arid landscaping and <br />distributing related educatioal materials; (6) initiation of a <br />leak detection and repair program which approximately 35 utilities <br /> <br />have agreed to use; (7) drafting water conservation legislation, <br /> <br />particularly the tax credit program enacted into law; (8) assisting <br /> <br />hundreds of water and wastewater treatment agencies, cities, counties <br /> <br />and water right applicants in implementing water conservation <br />practices and programs; (9) publication and distribution of a <br />bi-monthly newsletter to about 5,000 readers; (10) production <br />of water conservation public service announcements for radio and <br /> <br />television, as well as displays for fairs and other exhibits; <br /> <br />(11) creation of a resource center on water conservation which <br /> <br />includes publications, films and video tapes; and (12) publication <br /> <br />of a water conservation reference manual and numerous reports <br /> <br />and brochures on various aspects of water conservation. <br /> <br />In 1980, Governor Jerry Brown directed DWR to prepare a state <br /> <br />water management plan for the state water project, including measures <br /> <br />on conservation, reclamation, ground water storage, pricning changes, <br /> <br />and water exchanges. He also directed DWR to undertake a desalting <br />program of up to 400,000 acre feet by recycling agricultural drainage <br />and other brackish waters. Lastly, the order directed SWRCB to <br /> <br />require water conservation plans in exercising its authority over <br /> <br />water rights and in its federal and state grant authority. <br /> <br />31 <br />
