While water conservation measures mayor may not <br /> <br />produce consumer savings on water bills, significant energy cost <br /> <br />savings are possible. <br /> <br />Rationing is an effective municipal conservation measure, <br /> <br />though it is usually only practical in emergencies. Both mandatory <br /> <br />restrictions and calls for voluntary reductions in use such as <br /> <br />alternate watering days, can be effective. <br /> <br />One of the most important aspects of any effective water conser- <br /> <br />vation effort involves public education. Sound public information <br /> <br />and education programs have generally proven to be highly effective <br /> <br />in reducing water use (up to 307.) -- at least in the short run. <br /> <br />Domestic water conservation measures are effective. In-home <br />measures include the installation of retrofit devices such as toilet <br />dams, shower flow controls, pressure regulations, faucet aerators, <br />and water efficient appliances.
