pleted on the Gallup area and on reCOilllaissance coverage of the Jicarilla
Indian Reservation. (6) In Oregon, advisory studies were completed for
a deep well at the Haymaker Mountain air-guidance station near Keno. The
well was completed and test pumped at 67 gpm from a. static water level
1,190 feet below land surface; this is the greatest known lift from a well
in the State. (7) In Utah, a draft report was completed on a reconnais-
sance of Dinosaur National Monument. Papers and open-file reports were
released on: "General geology of the Lees Ferry-Glen Canyon Dam area",
byD. A. Phoenix; "Segregation of irrigation and power storage in Bear
Lake Reservoir", by W. V. Irons; and "Surficial deposits, geomorphology,
and Genozoic history of the Eureka quadrangle, Utah", by H. D. Goode.
Chemical quality of Hater.- The stream-sampling network includes:
(1) In Arizona, 3 daily stations on the Colorado River main stem, 1 on
the Virgin River, 4 in the Gila, Rivel;' basin, and 1 on the Yuma Main
Canal; also, 1 semi-monthly station on the Colorado. (2) In California,
$ daily stations, 100 monthly stations, and about 500 miscellaneous
samples during the report period. (3) In Colorado, 5 daily stations on
the Colorado River and tributaries. (4) In New Mexico, 3 daily stations
in the San Juan River basin. (5) In Utah, 11 daily stations of which 1
is on the Colorado River, 9 on the Green River and tributaries, and 1 on
the Sevier River; also 3 weekly stations, 1. each on the upper Sevier River,
the Weber River, and a tributary of the Green River. (6) In Wyoming,
2 daily stations in the Green River basin.

In New Mexico, ground waters of the upper Pllerco of the West, Gila,
and San Juan River basins were analyzed.

Sedimen1.- status of the sediment-station network and sediment-trans-
port studies is: (1) In Arizona, 6 daily stations of Hhich 2 are on the
main-stem Colorado and 1 each on the Paria, Little Colorado, Virgin, and
Gila. A study of transport and of reservoir performance was started on
the Christman Reservoir in Mohav8 County, (2) In California, 14 daily
and 51 periodic stations. Field work was completed on the sonar re-survey
of Lake Pillsbury. (3) In Colorado, 1 daily station on the Colorado
River. (4) In New Mexico., 4 daily statlons in the San Juan River basin.
(5) In Utah, 8 daily stations including 2 on the main-stem Colorado, 3 on
the main-stem Green, and 3 on tributaries. (6) In Wyoming, 1 daily
station on the Green River.

Hydrologic research and El'ecial studies.":' In regard to hydrologic
effects of urbanization, instrumentation of the three small watersheds in
the San Francisquito Creek basin near Menlo Park, California, was essen-
tially completed.

On the hydrologic study of the Upper Colorado River basin, flow-dura-
tion tables were machine computed for about 3,800 station-years of stream-
flow record, and about 40 percent of the historical duration data were
adjusted to a cormnon period of time and to the present st.age of river devel-
opment. Major progress was made in srunmarizing other data.
