Releases of water were made from Wagon Wheel Gap
Reservoir when necessary to meet the demam on the flow of the Rio Grande
near Del Norte illustrated in Table E-S. These demams were met insofar
as possible by the usable inO.ow betl7l~en the reservoir am Del Horte. The
residual irrigation demam, which could not be supplied from the usable
inflow, was met by the release of water from the reservoir. Quite otten
in May and Jum, irrigation releases are hot required due to the large
intervening infiows.,

During the irrigation season, the residual flow at Alamosa was
maintained at 17 cubic feet per SDCOm, or more, for stock water in the
section of the river below Alamosa. During the winter months, this flow
was maintained at 4D cubic feet per secom, or more.

Flood co~:J,. Advance re eervoir evacuations were made in order
to provide adequate space to control flows. The control points ror flood.
flows are Del Norte, Alamosa, am otowi. Damages begin at these points
when the flows exceed 4,500 cubio feet. Fer secOM at Del Norte, 2,000 cubic
feet per see om at Alamosa, am 5,000 cubic feet per secom at otowi. T~
flow was never ey.ceeded at Del Horte in the oFeration studies. The flow
at Alamosa was el~ceeded slightly on a few occasions but in actual practice
this could be. corrected b;)' temporarily increasing diversions in the reach
.OJ: river betwee-n.Del Horte alrl Alamosa.
