Army Corps oC Engineers Is proud to have played amllior role in development oC <br />the Southwest Cor over haJ( a century. <br /> <br />Born as the Concbas District in 1935, the organization was Cormed to build Conchas Dam near Tucumcarl, New Mexico. <br />When this project Was ftoIsbed, the district moved to Caddoa, Colorado and Iwgau Jobo Martin Dam. World War 11 intervened <br />and tbe District diverted its skDIs to support the war effort througb miUtary coustruction projects and assistance in the Camed <br />Manbattan Project; FoUowing the war, coustruction at Jobo Martin Dam resumed and tbe structure was dedicated in 1949. <br /> <br />Coustructlon oC other water resource projects Collowed including Jemez, Abiquiu, GaJisteo, Trinidad, Santa Rosa and <br />Cocbiti Dams. Ml\ior metropolitan f100d control projects were completed in Albuquerque, New Mexico; Pueblo, Colorado; and <br />are stiU underway in EI Paso, Texas. Rural areas are benefiting Crom a long-term renovation program oCblstoric a~uia irrigation <br />systems. A mllior military construction program is underway at New Mexico Air Fo""e Bases, affecting both military and <br />surrounding civilian coDllOunities. ' <br /> <br />Today, the District includes aU of New Mexico, about on third oC Colorado and about one fdlh oCTexas. Within the entire " <br />Corps oCEngineers, Albuquerque District ranks Courtb largest in geograpbic size and Is the only District beadquarters in the Rocky <br />Mountain region. Albuquerque is a diversified, CuU service District with a wealth oC experience ranging Crom varied design and, <br />coustruction projects to enviroomental enbancements and bazardous/toxic waste management. No project bas PJ:Oved too large <br />or too smaU; too routine or too complex Cor the Corps.
