OJ I ~r\) <br /> <br />MISCELLANEOUS ACTIVITIES <br /> <br />is <br /> <br />portal of San Jacinto tunnel on the Colorado !liver aqueduct to <br />the San Vicente reservoir in San Diego county was being carried <br />forward by the United States Navy, Following V-J Day the Navy, <br />which previously had launched the aqueduct project as a war time <br />measure, agreed to proceed with the work in accordance with the <br />terms of a contract with the City of San Diego under which the <br />latter will pay the true full cost of the aqueduct. The cost of the <br />aqueduct has been estimated at approximately $15,000,000, and <br />the City of San Diego has contracted to pay $500,000 annually for <br />a p"riod of 30 years. <br />During the course of the year. residents of the so-called West <br />Basin area organized a fact-finding committee to study the water <br />needs of that territory, In response to inquiries received by the <br />Dist.rict from local officials and individuals in the West Basin, the <br />Board of Directors indicated that it would give consideration to <br />the annexation of a West Basin unit including EI Segundo, Gar- <br />dena, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Inglewood, Manhattan Beach, <br />Palos Verdes Estates, and Redondo Beach, together with the unin- <br />corporated areas east and west of the City of Los Angeles "shoe- <br />string" and with,in the W"st Basin. <br />In that portion of west San Bernardino County, including On- <br />tario, Upland and Fontana, and overlying the Chino Basin, 8 spe- <br />cial committee authorized by the San Bernardino County Buard <br />of Supervisors was engaged during the year in the completion of <br />a water supply study of that territory. From this committee the' <br />District has received informal inquiries relating to the subject of <br />annexation. <br />_ During .theJatter \la.rt o.fJ~e_year the District received a n'umber <br />of inquiries from spokesmen of Pomona Valley areas situated in- <br />the eastern portion of Los Angeles County, in which information <br />relating to annexation was requested. In reslJonse to aU such <br />inquiries factual informatio~ was supplied concerning the opera- <br />tion of the Colorado River aqueduct and the terms and conditions <br />under which annexation will be given consideration by the Board <br />of Directors, <br /> <br />I" <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />j'Uotiou P?:ct1l1.es <br />Throughout the year the District continued to make its motion <br />picture entitled "They Saw Tomorrow" available for showings to <br />civic, business, patriotic, and educational organizations and insti- <br />tllt.ions.
