Regular <br />guards were maintained during the war years to prevent sabotage <br />and possible damage to the system as a result of enemy action, <br />This precaution was not considered necessary during the past fiscal <br />year. Such guarding as was necessary to prevent trespassing on <br />District property was done by regular patrolmen as a part of their <br />routine duties, These patrolmen are deputized by the various <br />countj' sheriffs of the counties in which they operate and are <br />authorized to make arrests when warranted. <br /> <br />Delivel'y of Colorado Riper /Vater <br /> <br />Natural Colorado River water was supplied from Lake Mathews <br />to the U. S. Army for use at Camp Haan during the entire fiscal <br />j'ear. Delivery is accomplished through a connection from the <br />valve structure in the head works to a near-by pumping plant, from <br />which the water i:; pumped through a 12-mile pipe line to a soften. <br />ing and filtration plant at Camp Haan, The Camp Haan and <br />March Field water systems are interconnected so that water can <br />be furnished March Field as desired, Regular delivery to Camp <br />Haan was begun in September 1942 and has been continuous since <br />that time. During the past fiscal year 1092.6 acre feet of water <br />were released to the Camp Haan pumping plant. The monthly <br />delivery increased from 97,2 acre feet in July 1945 to a maximum <br />of 125.1 in December and then gradually decreased to a minimum <br />for the fiscal year of 37.2 acre feet in June 1946, The quantit,\' <br />of water used by this camp during the past year would supply an <br />average Southern California community of 8,000 to 10,000 people, <br />Softened Colorado River water has been furnished to the United <br />States at Spadra Hospital continuously since April 1943, During <br />the last fiscal year the delivery totaled 163,7 acre feet the monthly <br />rate varying from a high of 27.9 to a low of 5,8 acre feet, <br />Delivery of softencd water to constituent areas of the District <br />was in large measure on a stand-by basis as in previouR years. The <br />Laguna Beach and South Coast County Water Districts, constit- <br />uents of Coastal Municipal Water District, Anaheim, Santa Ana, <br />and Santa ~fonica lised District \vater almo~l exclu~iveiy. Pasa- <br />dena, Beverly Hills, Fullerton, Long Beach, and Compton took <br />Colorado River water in the amount of 43, 37, 33, 30. and 13 pel' <br />cent, respectively, of their total production, Burbank, Los Angeles, <br />
