<br />Underground storage in the coastal basin is undergoing steady

<br />by t.he elltire population within and wit.hout the Metropolitan
<br />Water District, In ~everal localities active work is under way on
<br />the formation of annexation area, ~atisfactory t.o the District.

<br />Expenditures on capital accoullt from bond funds during the
<br />fiscal year were for additions t.o and hetterments of various fea-
<br />tures of the distribution system, for installation of step-dowll
<br />transformers at Camino in order to utilize Boulder power for camp
<br />uses, for additions to the housing facilities at Gene camp, and for
<br />purchase of one parcel of land in the Lake Havasu area and a
<br />house and small reservoir site at the north portal of Hollywood
<br />tunnel.

<br />Use of Colorado River water

<br />The use of Colorado River water by constituent areas expanded
<br />during the year to a quantity 52.6 per cent greater thall in the
<br />previou~ year. All constituent areas except Glendale and San
<br />Marino drew llpon the District supply as their individual needs
<br />reqllired, Anaheim, Laguna Beach, Santa Ana and Santa Monica
<br />used softened and filtered Colorado River water almost exclusively,
<br />Softened water was delivered to the U, S. Navy for Spadra Hos-
<br />
