Mr. Jex. Area Engineer. Grand JWlCtion. Colorado. stated that the
major problem which concerned him was the matter of replacement storage in
Western Colorad.o. The report contemplates the use'of 25% of the total .
active capacity (99.000 acre-feet) of the Ruedi Reservoir site on the Fry-
ing Pan River. The remainine 75% of the capacity of Ruedi Reserv, oir is
planned for use of the Blue-South Platte Project. The Bridgeport site,
which is an alternate replacement possibility. is located on the Gunnison
River near Grand Junction. This site has a possible storage capacity of,
-r850.000 acre-feet and can be used for the multiple ,purposes of replacement.
power development. irrigation of 5,000 acres of new land in the Whitewater
Flats, Colorado, and for Upper Colorado River Basin holdover storage.
Discussion of the Bridgeport reservoir indicated that this site might be
developed independently or as a feature of the Gunnison-Arkansas Project.
Mr. Powell indicated that if the power features should be operated on a
coordinated basis vdth the initial Gunnison-Arkansas Project, it could
"firm up" about 100.000,000 kwhrs annually of project secondary energy.

i

10. 'Mr. Christy stated that since 1933 the Arkansas Valley interests
have been urging the investigation of water needs in both Eantern and
Western ColoradO, with a view of importing the surplus Western Slope water
to the Arkansas Valley. There is an iJ!lnediate critical need for water and
power for industrial purposes and of water for both municipal and irriga-
tion purposes. The City of Pueblo is using up to the limit of its Arkansas
Valley rights and is critically short of mWlicipal water. During the war,
The Colorado Fuel and Iron Company provided i tseU with an additional
source of water supply for industrial purposes.
