This matter is ourrently being <br />oonilidered by the steering Committee. Mr. Riter will report at the next <br />meeting the results of studies by the Steering Committee. <br /> <br />Possibilities for industrial development in Western Colorado <br /> <br />21. Judge Stone briefly o~tlined for the committee' the data presented <br />to the Steering Co~ttee at its series of meetings on January 5, 1949. <br />Statements by Lt. Col. I. M. Rioe of the Corps of Engineers; Mr. M. E. Bunger. <br />oonsultant for Ford, Baoon & Davis Ino.; Mr. J. D. Doherty (Washington, D. C.) <br />and Mr. Boyd Guthrie (Rifle, Colorado) of the Bureau of Mines; Mr. J. W. <br />Spenoer of the Forest Servioe and several Western Slope representatives in- <br />dioated that there are quite extensive possibilities for the use of water in <br />Western Slope for industrial purposes. However, no speoifio figures are <br />available at this time for use by the committee. The industries involve use <br />of water for industrial processes as follows: <br /> <br />(a) Synthetic liquid fuel from oil shales. <br />(b) Synthetio liquid fuel from ooal reserves. <br /> <br />(c) Wood pulping. <br /> <br /> <br />(d) ExploratiGn and minine of materials for atomic energy. <br /> <br /> <br />(e) Recovery and milling of ores in vicinity of Aspen. <br /> <br /> <br />(f) Marble industry near Carbondale. <br /> <br /> <br />(g) Coal mining near Crested Butte. <br /> <br /> <br />(h) Munioipal and domestic uses in connection with industries. <br /> <br />22. The current investigations by the Bureau of Mines are in the nature <br />of an inventory of natural resources for the possible production of synthetic <br />liquid fuels. At the present time no program for their production has been <br />formulated. <br /> <br />23. Judge Stone stated that under the Colorado water policy use of <br />water for industrial purposes in Western Colorado will be protected as against <br />Federal Reclamation Projects for the exportation of water from the Colorado <br />River Basin to the Eastern Slope of Colorado. <br /> <br />power development <br /> <br />24. !Jr. Silmon Smith referred to the 1943 Session Laws .,hich descri be <br />the conditions under which transmountain diversions by Federal Reclamation <br />Projects may be made.
