StmSTANTIATING MATERIALS

Present DeveJ.opment Status of Scattered Land Tracts
in Initial Plan for Pine River Project Extension

The plan for the 1951 report on the Pine River project extension,
based on surveys made in 1942, would provide irrigation uater for 15,l5O
acres of land that were undeveloped in 1942. Of this total acreage 6,420
acres would be served by an elll.argement and extension of the K:l.ng Con-
solidated Canal and the remaining 8,730 acres, more l'Iidely dispersed,
would be served tbrough minor extensions of numerous existing irrigation
systems. Since the project extension ws authorized in 1956, further
investigations have shown that extensive developments of the scattered
land areas have already taken place. It is the purpose of this section
of the report to show the present development status of the 8,730 acres
of land mentioned above in support of the conclusion previously expressed
that they are not now suitable tor inclusion in the plan for the Pine
River project extension.

According to the 1951 report eight existing ditches or canals could
serve the 8,1'30 acres of new J.and, providad minor enlargements or exten-
sions were made.' In the recent surveys it ws found that l' ditches and
canaJ.s are actuaJ.ly involved although the additional ditches would serve
only minor areas and as a rule would require no elll.argements or extension.

From recent aerial photographs and from field inspections it ws
determined that by 1957, ',300 acres of the land were being irrigated
and an a.dd:LtionaJ. 92(' acres were being prepared for irrigation. Irri-
gation of about '98 acres would be 1mpracticable 88' So '.Bureau of Recla-
mation project because of the small acreage and because the J.and is so
far beyond the end. of the Tholll.PSOn Epperson ditch extension from which
it could best be served.
