Environmental Involvement

1. The Proposed Draft Ertvironmental Statement ,:for Grand Mesa Project
has been prepared and submitted to Commissioner in February 1973, for re-
view prior to distribution to other a@encies.

2. There are no major controversial issues involved with respect to
conversion of 7,430 acres of livestock range and wildlife habitat land to
irrigation.

3. The flow of the Gunnison and Colorado Rivers would be reduced by
an average of 29,lKJO acre-feet annual~ and the salinity at Lake Mead
would be increased by an average of 3 mg./l. This is proposed to be off-
set by salinity control programs such as water sCheduling, systems im-
provement, and point source elimination in the Colorado River system.

Project Administration

The Grand M2sa Water Conservancy District was organized April 10, 1961,
as a project sponsoring and administrative agency.
