<br />N <br />CJ1 <br /><::> <br />w <br /> <br />implementing the Colorado River salinity standards through <br />the discharge permit program which became effective in May of <br /> <br />1978. <br /> <br />Water Quality Management Planning - In the Colorado <br /> <br />River Basin portion of Colorado, Section 208 plans have been <br /> <br />certified by the Governor and approved by EPA in three of the <br /> <br />four 208 planning regions. <br /> <br />These include the San Juan <br /> <br />Region, the District 10 Planning Region, and Colorado West <br /> <br />Area. The fourth region, the Northwest Colorado Area has <br /> <br />submitted a Section 208 plan which has been to public hearing <br />and submitted to the Governor for certification. <br /> <br />Updates to the San Juan Region, and District lO Planning <br /> <br /> <br />Region, Section 208 plans have occurred in the past l8 <br /> <br />months. The Colorado West Area has been de-designated as a <br />Section 208 planning region. The State of Colorado has <br /> <br />assumed responsibility for water quality management planning <br /> <br />in the area. A comprehensive update to the approved 208 plan <br /> <br /> <br />for the Colorado West Area will be conducted by the Colorado <br /> <br /> <br />Department of Health in 1986. <br /> <br />Other Activities <br /> <br />The Colorado Water Conservation Board, under a grant <br /> <br />from Reclamation, has assumed the responsibility for working <br /> <br />with the irrigation water supply entities in the Grand Valley <br /> <br /> <br />to organize the individual Grand Valley Laterals into legal <br /> <br />contracting bodies. Work on this activity is progressing <br />satisfactorily. <br /> <br />-27- <br />
