"" ;i .~' ~
;C:V."..J

llydrology

complicated by the many upstream diversions and inflows to the South
Platte River. Sediment analyses of surface suspended samples from the
Fort Morgan station show clay-sized particles within the 70 to 80 per-
cent range and the remaining particles being the size of silt and very
fine sand. Streambed samples consisted primarily of coarse sandy
material. The 100-year sediment deposition in the Narrows Reservoir is
computed to be 60,000 acre-feet. On an annual basis, 290 acre-feet
would come from Kiowa Creek and 310 acre-feet from the South Platte
River.

.

Table 13.--Annual water budget
(l,OOO acre-feet)

Item

Historic
without
Narrows

Future
with
Narrows

Residual river flows
South Platte River flow at Narrows site
Less reservoir depletions:
Evaporation 0 -23.6
Releases, historic Fort Morgan Canal 0 -43.2
Releases, supplemental Fort Morgan Canal 0 - 3.3
Outflow to river at Narrows Dam site 365.2 3Di'f.9
Return flow and gain, Narrows-Julesburg 343.5 392.1
Total supply, Narrows-Julesburg 708.7 76l.0
Less diversions, Narrows-Julesburg -393.7 -53l.1
South Platte River outflow at Julesburg ~ ~
a/Will provide 31,000 acre-feet direct yield plus 1,900 acre-feet
- storable. .
E!Releases from Narrows Reservoir for downstream divers~ons are less
than historic because the remainder of 38,300 acre-feet can be obtained
from divertible reservoir seepage flows.

.

South Platte flow above Jackson Lake inlet
Less diversions:
Jackson Lake inlet
Weldon Valley Canal
Fort Morgan Canal
Subtotal
Plus accretions:
Jackson Lake outlet
Jackson Lake seepage
Other reservoir seepage and inflow (Gains)
South Platte River flow at Narrows site
Less releases and losses from reservoir site:
Releases for downstream historic diversion
Releases, historic Fort Morgan Canal
Reservoir seepage
Reservoir evaporation
Spills
Project water supply

*

.

68

373.4
-38.8
-32.9 a/
-43.2 -
285.5

22.2
11.l
73.4
365.2

-175.7
o
o
o
-l89.5
---0
=

365.2

373.4
-18.9
o
o
"354.5

o
11.1
73.4
439.0

-l37.4 E.I
- 43.2
- 43.0
- 23.6
- 72.4
119.4

439.0
